RapidMetering is a remote water meter reading solution designed to improve harsh meter-reading environments for analog meters and reduce inconvenience and risks associated with manual inspections. A compact camera is attached to an analog water meter to automatically capture the dial/indicator, and the captured images are converted into digital readings using AI deep learning for number recognition. This data can be used as the basis for customer billing and supporting evidence, and it is also valuable for social safety-net services such as monitoring seniors living alone and other vulnerable groups. It is currently used by more than 25 local governments and can be expanded by combining with digital metering data or applying the approach to various analog gauges in environments such as factories.
